Canadian police increased security around U.S. and Israeli diplomatic buildings after shots were fired at the U.S. consulate in Toronto. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, around 5:30 a.m. Authorities found spent shell casings and damage to the building. Fortunately, no one was injured. Prime Minister Mark Carney called the attack a “reprehensible act” and vowed full investigation.

Officials said two men exited a white SUV near the consulate around 4:30 a.m. They fired a handgun at the front of the building. Witnesses reported the men then drove away. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Superintendent Chris Leather confirmed security would be tightened at the consulates and U.S. and Israeli embassies in Ottawa. Authorities said the shooting is being investigated as a national security incident.

Toronto Police Deputy Chief Frank Barredo said it is too early to link the attack to recent shootings at synagogues in the Toronto area. Last week, gunshots were fired at three synagogues, but no injuries were reported. Officials are examining possible motives and connections. Meanwhile, police continue to gather evidence and review surveillance footage.

The U.S. State Department confirmed awareness of the incident. It said officials are coordinating closely with Canadian law enforcement. The department is monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of staff. Canadian authorities also aim to prevent any escalation of threats. Security measures are being evaluated nationwide.

The attack follows other recent incidents targeting U.S. diplomatic sites abroad. In Oslo, Norway, an improvised device exploded at the U.S. embassy, and police are searching for suspects. In New York City, two men were charged with terrorism after throwing a homemade bomb at anti-Islam protesters. Authorities worldwide remain on high alert amid rising tensions in the region.
